About

Ocean cruise

Celebrate the new year in style with some winter sun on this round-trip Oceania cruise out of Miami, sailing between sun-drenched Central and South America and dipping into Jamaica on your return. After leaving Miami’s Art-Deco glitz, Mexico’s Costa Maya impresses with jungle-backed beaches, which hide Mayan ruins. It’s then on to Belize’s Harvest Caye for artisans’ villages and the world’s second-largest coral reef before, New Year’s Eve is spent on the white sands of a Honduran island – Roatán. Then, Costa Rica’s Puerto Limón offers access to rainforests brimming with wildlife before Panama’s Colón showcases rainforest trails, decaying colonial architecture and the iconic Panama Canal. Your next port, Colombia’s UNESCO-listed Cartagena, is a true highlight for its European old-town spread of cobbled alleys, church spires and pastel houses. Before returning to Miami, you’ll also pause at Jamaica’s historic Port Royal, home to a 17th-century fort and pirate heritage.

Day by day itinerary

Day 1
UK to Miami

Enjoy included UK airport lounge access before your daytime flight to Miami. On arrival, transfer to your hotel where you will stay overnight. People-watchers will enjoy South Beach's Ocean Drive, while architecture buffs will love the Art Deco District. If you're looking for something a bit different, there are world-class museums and shopping venues too. In Miami, there really is something for everyone.

Day 3
At sea

Today will be spent at sea as you cruise through the Straits of Florida, a narrow passage between the Florida Keys and Cuba on your way to Mexico. Why not spend the day embracing your inner artist at the Artist Loft, where talented artists in residence offer inspiring workshops. Or perhaps learn to prepare a variety of exquisite dishes at The Culinary Centre, the ship's very own state-of-the-art cooking school. As the sun sets, gather in one of the convivial bars, attend a spectacular production show or take in an unforgettable musical performance.

Day 4
Costa Maya, Mexico

This morning, as you enjoy breakfast you'll arrive into the cruise port of Costa Maya, in Mexico's developing Costa Maya region. Surrounded by dense jungle and turquoise waters and blessed with radiant sunshine all year round, it's little wonder the ancient Maya chose to call this place home. Indeed, historical ceremonial centres like Chacchoben give us an insight into their culture and heritage. Today, you'll have a chance to climb among the ruins, many of which are still being excavated. Look out for raucous toucans in the trees. Also available as an optional excursion is a chance to go swimming with bottlenose dolphins and learning about their remarkably intelligent behaviour and friendliness. For a more relaxing day, opt to snorkel in the shallow crystal-clear waters near the shore.

Day 5
Harvest Caye, Belize

Today offers the perfect opportunity to live out your paradise island fantasies in one of the Caribbean's lesser known but more stunning islets. Harvest Caye - just off the coast of Belize - features an enchanting range of environments from tropical rainforests to marshes and coral reefs, all within the confines of just 75 acres. Use your time to explore its incredible biodiversity, discovering exotic wildlife such as crocodiles, howler monkeys, toucans and water birds and exploring the world's second largest coral reef. There is also a chance to try out river tubing or zip-lining through the rainforest, meaning you can enjoy both relaxation and adventure amid lush tropical landscapes.

Day 6
Roátan, Honduras

With trademark white-sand beaches, swaying palm trees and magnificent rainforest backdrops, Roátan is Honduras' answer to a tropical island paradise. A prominent reef ringing around the island conceals shipwrecks, coral gardens and a plethora of exotic sea creatures. Spend today exploring the superb shallow reefs through snorkelling, kayaking or diving, or discover the island's other natural wonders on a horseback ride on the beach and through a tropical forest past spectacular volcanic rocks. It is also possible to visit a nearby nature sanctuary where you have a chance to interact with several endemic species of monkey.

Day 8
Puerto Limón, Costa Rica

Right in the centre of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica lies the small port city of Puerto Limón. Docking into port early this morning means plenty of time to experience this colourful city and the melting pot of Latin American, African and Asian cultures of the region. To the north of the city you'll find Tortuguero National Park, accessible through an optional boat excursion, riding through the Tortuguero Canals or the Estero Negro estuary, the rich jungle tapestry all around, while looking out for colourful birds, monkeys, iguanas, sloths, crocodiles and the legendary Blue Morpho butterfly. For incredible views of the rainforest, make sure you ride the aerial tram across Braulio Carillo National Park.

Day 9
Colón, Panama

Another early start sees you arrive into your sixth country, Panama. Colón is home to the northern gateway of the famous Panama Canal. See how the Panama Canal operates with a visit to the locks. Or ride a train across the isthmus. Away from the hustle and bustle of the canal, a somewhat incongruous backdrop of lush rainforests and quiet rivers remind you that you're in the Caribbean. Here you can discover Panama's pristine forests and resident wildlife as you walk a forest trail or take a peaceful boat ride down a river.

Day 10
Cartagena, Colombia

Enter a new continent today as you sail into the colonial Colombian city of Cartagena, one of South America's most prominent port cities. Founded in the 16th century by the Spanish commander, Pedro de Heredia, the town takes its name from its namesake in Murcia in southeast Spain. Its walled town combined with cobblestone streets and colourful buildings are a constant reminder of its rich colonial history. Optional excursions today could include exploring the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, a fort that was once the most important military structure built in Latin America, or taking a historic walking tour of the old town, showcasing its myriad highlights. On the water, opt to board a beautiful Spanish galleon, a replica of a 17th century sailing ship, for a cruise of the inner bay of Cartagena.

Day 11
At sea

Another day at sea means a further chance to take advantage of the ship's wonderful onboard facilities. Whether's it's a cooking class, the buzzing casino or simply a relaxing day in the ship's library, there's plenty to keep you occupied. Come the evening, world-class musical performances will dazzle you, showcasing an ever-changing array of guest entertainers such as pianists, classical string quartets, dynamic vocalists and spectacular headliners.

Day 12
Port Royal, Jamaica

Your final port of call sees you arrive into one of the oldest and most historic regions of the Caribbean and Jamaica, Port Royal. With a past steeped in pirate tales, Port Royal is now a relatively quiet fishing village. The port city rose to prominence as one of the largest European cities in the New World in the 1600s and quickly became the infamous stomping ground of pirates such as Sir Henry Morgan, Calico Jack and Blackbeard. For those seeking an insight into the county's storied colonial past, a visit to Fort Charles and its maritime museum offers a strong historical introduction to the Jamaica's most notable port town. What's more, it is just a short drive away from Jamaica's cultural heart and capital city of Kingston. A visit to the city's plethora of museums, art galleries and street markets is an experience in itself. Those looking for a more relaxing last day can look for the delightful Lime Cay, a white-sand islet just off Port Royal.
