Where to go on holiday in July

Introduction

From sensational summer escapes in Europe and North America to the iconic wildebeest migration in East Africa, July offers travel treats aplenty. Browse the selection below, all hand-picked by our specialists, then give us a call to plan your summer break.

Summer in Europe

While many of the Mediterranean's beaches might be at their busiest, there's still plenty to enjoy on the Continent. Italy celebrates two famous festivals in July, namely the Verona Opera Festival and Palio di Siena – although both require booking well in advance, as do trips to popular regions including Capri and the Amalfi Coast. That said, if you're after a last-minute escape, our specialists are on hand to check availability and point you in the right direction. Perhaps you'll take in the vineyards of Northern Spain or Sicily, look to the beaches of the Greek Islands or head to Scandinavia and the Nordics where you'll enjoy warm weather, spectacular scenery and, north of the Arctic Circle, the endless glow cast by the ethereal Midnight Sun.

Festivals in North America

July 4th celebrations in the USA are patriotic affairs and bring a celebratory vibe across the country; head to the east coast for the most pleasant conditions. It's also an ideal time to spot killer whales in Puget Sound or watch bears fish for salmon in Alaska. Meanwhile, in Canada, catch the Calgary Stampede and enjoy an action-packed rodeo, or head for the country's magnificent national parks.

Wildlife holidays

In Africa, the Kenyan Masai Mara migration season begins – a breathtaking spectacle – while safaris and whale spotting in South Africa are also in season. Down under, Australia's Queensland, Northern Territory and Northern Western regions benefit from sunny, warm days. Spot native wildlife in the vast Outback or head to the outer islands of the iconic Great Barrier Reef for superb diving and snorkelling.

Journeys through Asia

While many people consider Asia to be inaccessible due to the monsoon rains, July is in fact the best time to visit Thailand and Malaysia's east coasts, as well as Borneo and Indonesia. However, it's advisable to plan your visit for the first half of the month before the school holidays start, if you want to avoid the crowds.
